Predating Ty Segall’s solo career, this reissue plays surf-rock filtered through lo-fi garage arrangements at their most abrasive. It's a worthy listen for any fan of Ty Segall’s work.

Typically, when a band releases a video for their new single, they release a video for their new single. That video is often a series of spiffy, moving images that relate visually and/or thematically to the song that accompanies it, for the purpose of selling said song. Pepe Deluxé is not a typical band.

While the sound is quirky and a bit inventive, there’s not a whole lot on Nucular Aminals that is really worth revisiting time and time again.
Mass Dream will scare the bejesus out of you with its horrific cacophony of white noise, combining the surf guitar and rockabilly elements of the Cramps with the art-punk stylings of early Pere Ubu.

This is not the sound of a band trying to branch out and try something different, per se; Figurines winds up sounding like stuff you’ve heard elsewhere, and done a whole lot better.
