Cage the Elephant Ignite Central Park with Kickoff for Summerstage Season

Cage the Elephant rocked two sold-out nights at Summerstage and return to NYC for a free show May 29th. Info on that and a preview of the full Summerstage schedule is here.
Cage the Elephant

The energetic — nearly riotous perhaps — Cage the Elephant were great openers for the 2016 Summerstage season. The band packed in crowds for two sold out nights and the youthful crowd showered adoration upon them. As the band, and in particular lead singer Matt Shultz, took the stage, their enthusiastic and electric energy leapt into the audience who quickly lit with their own madness. This felt like a rare night for Summerstage — rarely do I see security in the photo pit looking out for over enthusiastic fans or crowd surfers approaching the barriers. Cage the Elephant will return to NYC for a free show May 29th — full details follow below.

Meanwhile, the 2016 Summerstage series will host over 100 shows across all five boroughs. It officially begins June 4 with jazz legends McCoy Tyner, Ron Carter and Roy Haynes in Central Park. While a full schedule is below, some of the highlights of the season include several of the free shows. In particular, Chairlift in Red Hook Park on June 14, Kamasi Washington in Central Park on June 18, Public Enemy in Betsy Head Park on June 21, ‘Comedy Central Presents: The Daily Show with Trevor Noah Stand-Up’ in Central Park on June 26, Unknown Mortal Orchestra in Central Park on July 30. The benefit shows (which require tickets to be purchased) include Flight of the Conchords first major appearance in a Central Park on July 24, Ryan Adams on July 20 and Jerry Garcia Symphonic Celebration featuring Warren Haynes on August 8th.
