Coty Hogue: Flight

Another compelling installment in the overarching Hogue catalog.

Self-released

Three albums and several years later, and Coty Hogue still remains one of new folk music’s truest gems — the rest of the world just hasn’t yet caught a glimpse of her yet. Her latest, 2016’s Flight maintains the natural transcendence of the singer-songwriter’s work, featuring another ten solid tracks reflecting traditional Appalachia when brought into a more modern setting. Joined by Molly Tuttle (guitar), Missy Rains (bass), Kat Bula (fiddler), and John Mailander (mandolin), Hogue presents another firm argument for a higher ascension in regards to her name recognition as an artist outside of her hometown of Bellingham, Washington.

Perhaps fueled by a trip she had taken by bike alone from her aforementioned home on through the Southlands, the album makes for easy, reflective listening as a traveler’s piece. All in all, it’s another compelling installment into the overarching Hogue catalog.
