For fervent crate diggers and distinguished connoisseurs of Spanish music, the NYC-born and bred Fania label is by far and away the quintessential label for rare and classic Latino grooves that kept Spanish Harlem on full blast until the wee hours for nearly 40 years. In conjunction with the massive reissue campaign to bring many of Fania’s seemingly bottomless dearth of back catalog material to the surface once again for a new generation to appreciate, the label has also launched a partnership with Wax Poetics magazine to bring you a series of live DJ albums showcasing the best the imprint has to offer.

The second release in this Fania Live comes from Canadian-born DJ Le Spam, who has made a name for himself on the Miami music scene with his marathon DJ sets as well as his can’t-miss local engagements with his Latin-electro-funk ensemble the Le Spam All-Stars. And the experience keeping a club load of Cuban and Puerto Rican booties shaking all night long certainly gave him a leg up in putting together Fania Live 02: From Miami, which features choice nuggets from such Fania superstars as Charlie Palmieri, Willie Colon, Mongo Santamaria, Tito Puente and Ismael Riviera among others, not to mention mega-rare classic interludes from legendary radio DJ Symphony Sid, who pretty much ran the jazz and Latino music game on New York radio for over 35 years during the 20th century.
