Before Inner Circle became known as the dudes behind the theme from “Cops”, they were one of the most original and inspired reggae acts to come out of Jamaica in the 1970s, lead by the powerful, soulful vocal stylings of the late Jacob Miller. A voice cut far too short in 1980, when he was killed in a car accident in Brazil while on a business trip with Bob Marley and former Island Records chief Chris Blackwell. Long out of print, this incredible posthumous album, featuring the final recordings of Miller before his death for an intended solo album, has been beautifully revamped courtesy of reggae imprint VP Records’ new reissue offshoot 17 North Parade and expanded to include crucial extended 12” versions and dubs from these final sessions as well. Not only is Jacob Miller Lives On a wonderful testament to this late vocal great, but to the album’s producer, Joe Gibbs, who passed away in 2008, as well.
