Joanna Wallfisch: Gardens in My Mind

Not unlike a variety of artists, especially those who traverse their musical pathway in such an eloquent way as Joanna Wallfisch does, the London singer-songwriter comes from a line of revered classical musicians. Perhaps an explanation for her gorgeous operatic vocal delivery and the complexity of her musical composition, Wallfisch is also the holder of a master’s degree in Jazz Performance from the renowned Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Unlike the often stiff and stoic development that envelopes such a classical upbringing for other creators, however, Wallfisch dares to craft her work with an added dose of sincerity to the stories that she offers by allowing herself to be equally as influenced by the brash truths of folk music. The end result is the sweeping orchestral movement of Gardens in My Mind with the Dan Tepfer and the Sacconi Quartet — a truly beautiful listen from start to finish and a stellar sophomore effort by Wallfisch, who is quickly becoming one of the most intriguing acts worthy of a spotlight from outside of London.
