Pig&Dan: Imagine

It’s been eight long years and dozens of 12-inches since Igor “Pig” Tchkatoua and Dan “Dan” Duncan met on a random flight and formed a bond, and just now are we treated to their debut album. With all that experience between them, the quality of their slightly glitchy microhouse and techno sounds are totally professional. There are no obvious problems with their production either. They pretty much channel all the four-four bounce of the average Border Community or Kompakt single, but something seems amiss. Pig&Dan could simply be too stuck in their ways now as — despite the inarguable quality of the form — Imagine doesn’t come up with anything particularly remarkable or revolutionary. There are no Waking Life “wow” moments to be found, while songs often consist of three or four sounds repeated for eight minutes with hardly a tweak for their duration. That leaves Imagine more or less unimaginative. Trentemøller, they ain’t.
