Prenup: Hell To Pay

Take two members of the Hothouse Flowers and the former chanteuse from The Pogues and what do you have? Well, aside from a trio of talented musicians is a band consisting of three divorcees, Prenup. And fortunately for the listener, there is a definite chemistry going on from the opening notes of the warm, roots-y “Suckerpunched”, to the singer-songwriter, Americana approach of “Leave it All Behind” and the equally stellar “Ace of Hearts”. When Prenup slow things down, as they do with the Stones-y country rock “Cold Wind”, it’s another keeper. But for the most part this album is brimming with catchy pop rock like “Say Goodbye” and the smart, Crowded House-like “Technicolor”. The same style is also apparent on “Man, Woman and Child”. Most of the songs come off without a hitch as Fiachna O Braonain takes over all the lead vocals with Cait O’Riordan and Dave Clarke providing sweet harmonies for “Wedding Ring”.
