The Bangkok Five: We Love What Kills Us

Five songs in English, same five done in Spanish makes for a half decent effort. The Bangkok Five try to infuse some pizzazz and sizzle with “Who’s Gonna Take Us Alive?”. The cocky, strutting rock and roll is apparent on the opening title track, “We Love What Kills Us”, which sounds suited for Motley Crue or Poison. The group also keeps this style going with “This One’s for the Haters” with not as much power or punch. Perhaps the hidden gem is the Strokes-ian “Straight Fell Off” that opens as a power ballad before building and building. Another decent affair is the dance-rock of “Pretty Machine”. On the whole it’s good, but couldn’t they go for maybe ten songs and not one in each language? I mean it’s not that difficult, is it?
