The Holloways: So This Is Great Britain

Although there are certain British bands that have recently come before them with more splash, The Holloways are proving they can certainly carry their own weight. The quartet brings to mind a lighter, poppier version of The Fratellis mixed with The Kinks during the opening title track. Just as catchy but with a slightly island flair is “Generator” that again packs a lot of punch in under three glorious minutes. The same can be said for the infectious, Futureheads-meets-The Clash “Dancefloor”. From there though things take a less-than-stellar turn with the Mellencamp-tinged “Two Left Feet” but fortunately they get back to their jangle-y foundations with the party-starting “Re-invent Myself?”. The Holloways’ ballad effort “Most Lonely Face” is okay but nothing more and sags over five minutes. Generally, if you enjoy short, punchy and terribly catchy Brit pop like “Happiness And Penniless” and “Diamonds And Pearls”, then The Holloways are your cup of tea.
