The Wildbirds’ debut EP is the kind of record that sounds better and better the drunker and louder things get. With the volume at a reasonable level in the middle of a Sunday afternoon, the Wisconsin band’s ballsy, revival rock might sound tired and predictable, but wait until you’ve gotten a few beers deep into a Saturday night, turn the volume up to ten, and that doesn’t seem to matter so much anymore. Suddenly, the choruses are catchy, the guitar solos are fiery and the drums makes you want to dance. You might just be turned into a fan. Then again, that might not last. Every Saturday night has to end sometime — and Suzanne doesn’t give you much worth remembering in the morning.
