Tim Williams: When Work Is Done

It would prove somewhat difficult to point Tim Williams out of a crowd of melancholy singer/songwriters. On the Brooklyn native’s sophomore full-length, When Work Is Done, Williams does little to separate himself from the average coffeehouse crooner with an acoustic guitar. While certainly having his moments, particularly with opener “Novel” — nicely crafted utilizing glockenspiels and electronic synth beats — for the most part Williams offers only a myriad of sensitive-guy heartache for his audience. Drowning in its own rainy day pleasantness When Work Is Done slogs in its attempt to stand out. In the song “Lessons” Williams appropriately asks, “I am giving all I can / Is it enough?”. Most listeners may not think so.
