The first comparison that E.P., the new EP from Triple Hex, brings to mind is the Gun Club. Both bands share a fondness and have a well-crafted expertise in a blues-influenced primitive punk sound. While it’s doubtful that Triple Hex will ever achieve the long-lasting impact of the Gun Club, that doesn’t seem to be the goal. They have a firm grasp on their limitations and don’t really see a need for grand ambition, nor should they. E.P. is a direct and immediate listening experience that doesn’t stay with you but is incredibly enjoyable in the moment. Triple Hex has a vision and they’re admirably adhering to (and exploiting) it for all its worth. This is a bare-bones display from a confident power trio. There’s not much room for expanse, a great sense of restraint and at least one standout tune. At the very least, it’s worth a few listens.
