The Record Club, a rotating crew of musicians gathered by Beck to release weekly covers of tracks from classic albums, just put out a video for “Winter Lady”. This iteration of the Club includes Devendra Banhart and MGMT, among others, and the album du jour is Songs of Leonard Cohen.

Once I got past my initial impression of “what have they done to ‘Suzanne’?!”, I found the covers to be at the very least academically interesting, and at times, quite grooving.

Tigercity
Ancient Lover
(Self-released)

Tigercity has released their new single, “Fake Gold”, a precursor to their new LP Ancient Lover, which can be purchased at their shows or online.

This is the Brooklyn pop band’s first single since their 2007 release of Pretend Not to Love, which drove critics like Rolling Stone to call them “our new favorite band”. Tigercity will be bringing their synthesizers all over the country for their U.S. tour, which should resonate with fans of Prince, Hall and Oates, and getting down on the dance floor. Catch the tour dates after the jump, or listen to the “Fake Gold” and get in touch with your inner ‘80s fan.

Lymbyc Systym
Shutter Release
(Mush)
Release Date: 3 November

Lymbyc Systym’s Jared and Michael Bell have done much preparing for the release of their second album, Shutter Release, due in stores on November 3. The brothers drew inspiration for the second album through late night phone calls to one another. The brothers, living in Austin and Brooklyn respectively, would sing melodies and coordinate and craft rhythms together over the phone and from this give and take, the record began to take shape. The ten song album came together using such instruments as organs, vibraphone, analog synthesizers, banjo, glockenspiel, African percussion, and even a toy piano.

To promote the release of the Shutter Release, the brothers are hitting the road with The Books and Iron and Wine. There are two remaining shows available to catch the Bell brothers live:

09/25 Charlottesville, VA The Southern
09/26 Princeton, NJ Terrace F. Club

In addition to touring, the first single off the album, “Ghost Clock” is available as an MP3 download.

Drums of Death does a killer remix of Franz Ferdinand’s “What She Came For”, and of Peaches “Lose You”. Makes the listener feel like they’re in a hipster basement club dancing with a gaggle of very skinny kids, holding on to the ceiling.
