The latest tune from young rock up-and-comers StarBenders is proof that if you put your mind to writing a song about sex, you'll probably succeed.

On their Tumblr page, up-and-coming rockers StarBenders describe their sound as akin to “Iggy Pop playing 7 minutes in heaven with Katy Perry.” It’s a bold and playful declaration, one that’s befitting of the group’s youthful presence. However, the Iggy Pop comparison also hints at the punk edge that rears its head throughout the otherwise thoroughly poppy songs StarBenders play. “Touch”, a tune from their forthcoming self-titled EP, is an ideal representation of the band’s style.

#Selfie: clever or dumb? Probably both.

Apparently you either love or hate #Selfie, which is a weird hybrid of EDM (electronic dance music) and the spoken verse of a hip young thing in a nightclub. You may love it at first because it is sickeningly addictive, then hate it once you’ve heard it too often, or love it and hate it all at the same time (a little like Jäggerbombs).

Check out a trio of remixes of "Wasteland", a song by the English art rock outfit Satellites.

When Johnny Vic dropped off a couple of his CDs that he made under the name Satellites in London record shops, he found that they sold out rather quickly in most cases. Following up on this momentum, Satellites crafted a full-length LP, .02, which was released in the UK last year, and will soon see its stateside release. Below you can check out three remixes of the .02 number “Wasteland”.

Check out the latest LP by Dayton, Ohio indie rockers Motel Beds, These Are Days Gone By, which you can stream in full here on PopMatters.

Dayton, Ohio rockers Motel Beds are aptly named. Their brand of stripped-down indie rock is the exact kind of thing one can imagine blasting out the windows on a long road trip, crashing at the end of the day in a motel bed after filling one’s ears to the brim with catchy guitar riffs. There are certainly plenty of memorable guitar hooks on These are the Days Gone By, the band’s latest outing for the Misra label.

Get a taste of Fall 2014's new shows on Wednesday evenings, with a little analysis on their odds for renewal.

Wednesday nights will be tough for all of the the new series on the major networks this fall. The schedule is full of old favorites that viewers will have to be persuaded to stop watching in order to try something new. The key question here is obvious: are any of these new shows worthy of your time?
