Four Tet recently played three songs for Pitchfork.tv’s “Tunnelvision”. “Angel Echoes” and “Sing” are from Four Tet’s latest opus, There Is Love in You, which we awarded an 8 last month and Timothy Gabriele said was “among Kieran Hedben’s best work, a dance friendly album that fits into the extensions of spiritual jazz he has spent a career crafting.”

We described Dosh’s 2008 record, Wolves and Wishes, as “his most forward thinking, ambitious effort yet”. The Fog drummer and touring pal of Andrew Bird returns in April with Tommy. There’s a way to get attention… name your new album after a rock classic. Bird teams with Dosh on “Number 41” and we also have the lead-off tune “Subtractions” for your listening pleasure.

Deer Tick is a favorite here at PopMatters with their recent album Born on Flag Day received an 8 last June and just bubbled under our Top 60 album list last December. Andrew Gilstap raved about the album saying: “It seems to be the nature of the world to chafe at any spot of contentment in your life, and Born on Flag Day captures that sense of being at odds with your surroundings as well as any release this year. It’s a feeling of conflict that exists in every part of the band’s music: the faster songs feel like they’re about to run off the rails, sharp lyrics lurk in the slower songs just waiting for their chance to cut to the bone, and vocalist John Joseph McCauley conveys it all with an acute, nasally rasp.”
So, we’re excited to announce that Deer Tick will be playing a free show next Wednesday (3 March) in San Francisco at The Independent. The show is being presented exclusively by T-Mobile® myTouch™ 3G Fender™ Limited Edition and will begin at 9.00pm, with the doors opening at 8.00pm. Entry into the show is first come, first served, so best to start queueing early. You can drop a line to [email protected] to let them know you plan on coming, but it’s no guarantee of admission, so get down there the earliest you can.

Will Forte is at it again with his Saturday Night Live MacGyver parody MacGruber, only this time he is bringing his ineptitude to the big screen. It’s a move that increases the sketches screen time from three minutes to most likely 90 minutes or so, a 2900% increase. The star power is also increased exponentially with Val Kilmer and Ryan Philippe taking large roles in the story along side current and former SNL talent Maya Rudolph, Bill Hader, and Kristen Wiig. The film was directed by Jorma Taccone, who is 1/3 of hilarious musical act Lonely Island prominently featured on SNL‘s Digital Shorts.
