Brooklyn indie foursome Via Audio released their sophomore LP Animalore this past March, following the critical success of 2007’s Say Something. Spoon’s Jim Eno is again the production mind behind the latest lo-fi pop tunes of the Berklee College of Music-trained musicians. Via Audio holed up in Eno’s Austin home last year to develop and record the tracks for Animalore. Today’s premiere of their new video of “Olga” exemplifies the currently wildly popular lo-fi aesthetic both musically and visually, an artistic approach discussed in-depth recently over on Pitchfork in “This Is Not a Photograph”.

Rooney has been busy this summer touring their new self-released album Eureka, their third full-length album of sunny California pop with AM radio melodies and harmonies. “Holdin’ On” leads off that album and here the band gives us an exclusive behind-the-scenes glimpse of their touring life, busking their way through the tune on their tour bus. The spare acoustic arrangement is rather nice, putting those harmonies front and center.
Two new films about John Lennon will be released to celebrate the musician’s birthday, 9 October. Nowhere Boy is a British biopic that examines Lennon’s childhood and early musical influences. LENNONYC, on the other hand, studies Lennon during the 1970s, when he lived in New York City; it will be shown on PBS on 22 November.
