Bob Dylan: Together Through Life—The big release of the week comes from one of the most important songwriters in pop music history. Dylan has been undergoing something of a renaissance late in life, working at a pace many younger musicians can’t match. Together Through Life came together on the road last year and is something of a bonus to fans, coming hot on the heels of 2008’s critically acclaimed The Bootleg Series Vol. 8: Tell Tale Signs.

El Michels Affair hooked up with the Wu-Tang Clan a few years back for a live show that spawned a limited run of 7-inch singles. But now with Enter the 37th Chamber, the soul-funk band is tackling the gritty hip-hop collective’s best tracks on its own. Here we have an MP3 download of El Michels Affair’s “C.R.E.A.M.”, perhaps the Clan’s most memorable joint. From the famous twinkling piano to the dusty drums, it’s all there and then some. Enter the 37th Chamber is available now on Fat Beats.

The French duo of Miss Kittin and the Hacker first got together in back in 2001 for the album First Album and turned out the lewd, but catchy “Frank Sinatra”. I won’t recount those lyrics here, but you can listen on Lala.com. Our very own Terry Sawyer said of the duo, “they created decadent club music for people too arch and smart for typical white label fare.”
They haven’t worked together since then and Miss Kittin went on to record I Com, while the Hacker went off on his own as a DJ and remixer working with the likes of Air and Laurent Garnier. The two began writing together again back in 2006 and hit the stage in 2007. Now they are releasing their first full-length since 2001 on May 19th with TWO. They’re a bit less outrageous this go-around and a tad more sophisticated to boot. Sample their new approach here with the online premiere of “Electronic City”.

British hip-hopper Dizzee Rascal returns to the music world on 18 May with the release of the “Bonkers” single. The sound is a bit different for him and he raps over banding, straight-ahead electronic beats from Armand Van Helden that evokes the Chemical Brothers school of big beat. Dizzee offering up a new full-length Tongue ‘n’ Cheek later in the year as well.
Quentin Huff said of Prince’s new album, “LotusFlow3r, conceptually and in musical diversity, operates as a cross between Stevie Wonder’s Journey Through the Secret Life of Plants and Me’shell Ndegeocello’s The World Has Made Me the Man of My Dreams. Like The Secret Life of Plants, the songs on this set explore, in some way, various aspect of the lotus flower mystique. “Love Like Jazz” and “77 Beverly Park” might even fit the mood and music of Plants.” Here’s the video for “Crimson and Clover” from that release.
