Best Coast's latest album, California Nights, will see its release on May 5th via Harvest Records. It was produced by Wally Gagel (Miley Cyrus, New Order, Muse) and is described as a bit more of everything Best Coast.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Bethany Cosentino says, If you have ever lived in California, you know what nighttime here feels like. You know what the sky looks like when those epic sunsets begin, and you understand that feeling and the way things change when the sun finally sets. In LA, or maybe just personally to me, when the sun sets—I feel like there is a large sense of calmness in the air, and I feel like everything that happened to me prior in the day, whether crappy experiences or good ones, at night, it all goes away and I sink deep into this different kind of ‘world’.

Alt rock veterans Swervedriver have released the video for their new single, "Setting Sun", along with details of a new album and tour.

A rather easygoing track, “Setting Sun”, the newest tune by Swervedriver, features the band’s familiar mix of shimmering and jagged guitars. The song is the lead single from I Wasn’t Born to Lose You, the band’s first album of new material since 99th Dream in 1998.

With DIY venues falling like dominoes across Brooklyn, showing support for off the beaten path gig spaces has become a worthier act than ever.

The Chicago-based label Air Balloon Tapes has only two compilations to its name, but proceeds for each go to a venue in need. While Compilation #1 supported a Chicago locale, Young Camelot, Compilation #2 is throwing full support behind NYC’s Nola, Darling, the latest in many DIY ventures from scene creator and curator Winston Scarlett. Scarlett, who learned of Air Balloon through a mutual friend, is using this opportunity to also draw attention to some of Brooklyn’s most promising acts and the resulting scene, known as Slackgaze. Contrary to its name, Slackgaze encompasses some of the hardest working bands in the city, and much of it—like the bare bones anti-capitalist garage of Bodega Bay—isn’t exactly shoe gaze. What it is, however, is a good reminder that New York still has bands deserving of spots to play in, Nola, Darling of course being one of them.

Compilation #2 is released on 1 December 2014. A release show, featuring Chimes, Veda Rays, and other artists on the compilation, will be held 14 December at 3pm, at Nola, Darling.

A new track from the Walkmen's most surprising solo force.

With 2014 solo debut Liberation!, the Walkmen’s Peter Matthew Bauer proved himself an adept solo force, navigating psychedelic shuffles and religion-inspired exaltation. On “You Always Look For Someone Lost”, a new track released as part of Weathervane Music’s Shaking Through series, Bauer heads in a forlorn and folkier direction, albeit with the rich vocals and instrumental palette that his new backing band supplies. Listen below, and learn more about the song in a Shaking Through video.

Copies of the band's latest 7" reference new album called Rose Mountain.

This Monday, Screaming Females premiered their new single, “Wishing Well”, online. The song is wistful and resigned. It’s hard to figure out which sounds more jarring coming from Marissa Paternoster, the low-key meandering guitar lines that open the song or the lyrics where she promises to “be much sweeter”. It’s poppier than anything in the band’s catalog and is an exciting step forward.
