Tigercity
Ancient Lover
(Self-released)

Tigercity has released their new single, “Fake Gold”, a precursor to their new LP Ancient Lover, which can be purchased at their shows or online.

This is the Brooklyn pop band’s first single since their 2007 release of Pretend Not to Love, which drove critics like Rolling Stone to call them “our new favorite band”. Tigercity will be bringing their synthesizers all over the country for their U.S. tour, which should resonate with fans of Prince, Hall and Oates, and getting down on the dance floor. Catch the tour dates after the jump, or listen to the “Fake Gold” and get in touch with your inner ‘80s fan.

Lymbyc Systym
Shutter Release
(Mush)
Release Date: 3 November

Lymbyc Systym’s Jared and Michael Bell have done much preparing for the release of their second album, Shutter Release, due in stores on November 3. The brothers drew inspiration for the second album through late night phone calls to one another. The brothers, living in Austin and Brooklyn respectively, would sing melodies and coordinate and craft rhythms together over the phone and from this give and take, the record began to take shape. The ten song album came together using such instruments as organs, vibraphone, analog synthesizers, banjo, glockenspiel, African percussion, and even a toy piano.

To promote the release of the Shutter Release, the brothers are hitting the road with The Books and Iron and Wine. There are two remaining shows available to catch the Bell brothers live:

09/25 Charlottesville, VA The Southern
09/26 Princeton, NJ Terrace F. Club

In addition to touring, the first single off the album, “Ghost Clock” is available as an MP3 download.

While I am not the first to say this, I would like to extend a warm welcome back to the Meat Puppets. On 12 May 2009 the grunge-era rockers made a triumphant return to rock music with the release of their critically acclaimed album Sewn Together. Marking the second album since the band reunited in 2007, Sewn Together has been described as clever and more polished than past works. In an interview with Larry Rodgers of the Arizona Republic, Meat Puppets bassist, vocalist, lyricist and producer Cris Kirkwood said: “Sewn Together (which followed 2007’s Rise to your Knees) represents Curt and I getting beyond the fact that we’re just back together. I think the singing is better than ever.”

To celebrate the newish album the band has released a brand-new music video for the single “Rotten Shame”. They have also been touring more vigorously than ever before. In attempts to connect with fans, both new and old, the band has been accepting set-list requests for their live shows at: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address). It seems inevitable that if you haven’t heard of the Scottish band Glasvegas, you probably will soon. Their self-titled debut album was released in January of this year, and had been nominated for the Mercury Prize for best album of 2009, though it lost to Speech DeBelle’s Speech Therapy. Tack on live performances on Carson Daly and Craig Ferguson, playing a set at Lollapalooza and it’s no wonder they found themselves touring with U2 only a handful of months later. To finish up the year, Glasvegas is currently touring with Kings of Leon throughout Canada and some parts of the U.S (dates after the jump).

Yesterday, the band released their second U.S. single, “It’s My Own Cheating Heart That Makes Me Cry”. The single, which Bono declares is “one of the best songs [he’s] ever heard”, comes paired with a video which features a more intimate look into the mind of lead singer James Allan as he contemplates his inner quarrels with love:

Stop it Sindri! I keep getting lost in your dewy eyes. Sindri Mar Sigfusson, bandleader of the whimsical pop-folk group Seabear, has just announced North American tour dates in support of his solo project Sin Fang Bous. Alongside Múm, this tour is to promote Sin Fang Bous’s first record Clangour, off Morr Music. Clangour explores Sigfusson’s personal musical ambitions with a thoughtful quilt of eclecticism: layered instrumentation and electronic hooks, colorful yet subtle melodies, and swirling vocals that keep you in a trance. Such pop ingenuity has led many to make comparisons between Sin Fang Bous and other experimental acts like Animal Collective. What separates them is that Animal Collective thrives on a dissonant, jungle-riffic street sound. It almost feels like it’s coming from an alien city. Hailing from Reykjavík, Sin Fang Bous’s songs are homemade quaint morsels of vibrant aural color. Clangour is a controlled chaos that is kind to the ears. These “pocket symphonies” remind you just how precious, and maybe fragile, the man and his music really are. Look below for his video for “Advent and Ives”, a free download of “Catch the Light”, and click through the jump to see the tour dates.
