With a name like Head Like a Kite, you would assume a band would either be really buggy or really twee. In the case of this quixotic outfit, the brain child of genre-hopping DJ Dave Einmo, you get a little bit of both. Mastered by Dave Cooley, who has worked with Madlib, Danger Mouse, Prefuse 73 and the Polyphonic Spree to name but a few, the band’s third album is a glitchy, choppy and undeniably catchy 12-song set that brings the sunshine to the clouds of krautrock rhythm and a lightning bolt of whimsical harmony to the abstract hip-hop landscape. Helping Einmo along the way is an impressive array of guests, including Boom Bip, Her Space Holiday and members of Smoosh, the Long Winters and the Saturday Knights, all of whom successfully make Dreams Suspend Night a most enjoyable and unique listening experience.
