Greg Burk and Vicente Lebron: Unduality

The title of this album, even though it’s not a real word, says it all. The use of the prefix un- is to imply reversal or dismantling. How do you reverse the duality of a collaborative musical project?

Until I heard the album Unduality, I never thought I would have to type such a sentence. Keyboardist Greg Burk and percussionist Vicente Lebron, two veterans of the Boston big band Either/Orchestra, team up to make a 52-minute, 23-track program that balances Latin-flavored rhythmic workouts against bewilderingly strange harmonic deconstructions of Bach’s “Invention #1”. With titles like “Bachlava” and “Bach in Action”, and with Burk’s two hands performing in two different keys simultaneously, there’s no where else the tongue can be.

Even if Unduality isn’t your cup of tea, you should at least give Burk and Lebron credit for making an album unlike anything you’re likely to hear ever again.
