Only certain bands are capable of releasing an album that only consists of one song and getting away with it. The bands that do are usually progressive in nature and often write songs over ten minutes in length. The Atomic Bitchwax is not progressive and usually keeps their songs to a more manageable length, but single-track album The Local Fuzz (which is also the name of the single song) breaks the formula with the group’s boast of “50 riffs in 40 minutes”. This is certainly ambitious and well-executed, but it still sounds somewhat odd next to the rest of the band’s discography. If you can get used to it over time, though, The Local Fuzz becomes an enjoyable part of the group’s back catalog and an interesting clinic in guitar technique.
