Bronx River Parkway: San Sebastian 152

Bronx River Parkway
San Sebastian 152
Truth and Soul
2008-07-29

Originally formed in 2002 out of a spur-of-the-moment jam session at New York’s celebrated Soul Fire Studios, this supergroup of sorts featuring various musicians on the Truth & Soul record label finally releases their full-length debut with San Sebastian 152. The album was recorded in San Juan, Puerto Rico inside a makeshift studio housed within a 200-year-old former ballet school owned by reggaeton star Tego Calderon, and features a bevy of veteran musicians from PR’s legendary Candela Records imprint. Together, they create a sound that perfectly fuses the traditional Espanola vibes of Puerto Rico with the gritty funk of NYC soul to create a unique and enjoyable amendment to the sounds pioneered by the likes of Ray Baretto and Tito Puente, and is recommended listening to any fan of Latino music.
