Famous When Dead Sechs is house music, for sure. The stately 4/4 rhythms, chattering handclaps, and hissing hi-hats throughout establish that. Yet, while modern house is generally known for being spacious, many of these ten tracks somehow sound claustrophobic. And, with most approaching the ten-minute mark and not a whole lot happening, this is squarely in the “sounds better in the club than at home” category. X-District’s “Color Correction”, a short bit of ’80s style attitude that was recorded in Detroit and sounds it, offers some fresh air. Too often, though, with its musty synth noises, Famous When Dead Sechs reminds you of an old Atari 2600 system with a backbeat.
