You’d think that with a name like Deleted Waveform Gatherings and an album cover like Complicated View‘s, the Norwegian quartet would delve into electronica or math-rock. Instead, their debut record is full of ’70s-style rock and roll. Their influences are right there on their sleeve, easy to spot; “Walk on Glass” aims for late or solo era Beatles’ material; “Morgue Itch” showcases a lead vocal that’s equal parts Marc Bolan and Liam Gallagher; “Ways Around It” you could swear was a Sam Roberts song. Sure, at times it all seems a tad derivative — but then again, it’s easy to imagine that if Deleted Waveform Gatherings had come along five years ago, they’d have been hailed as one of the brightest shining lights in the Rock Revival.
