Fresh Mowed Lawn: Fresh Mowed Lawn

I wasn’t sure what to make of Fresh Mowed Lawn during the initial moments, but following a lush opening, the group hits its stride with a funky blend of folk/pop/rock for “Watching the World Turn Slowly/From This Day Forward”, which brings to mind Counting Crows. The song’s mellow tones make it an interesting listen. Starting down this path is the mid-tempo, laidback “All the Rage”, which isn’t all the rage at all. A better effort is “Come Alive” that has that strolling chic quality to it a la The Twilight Singers. However, not everything is spectacular, although “Wish It All Away” has its moments. The first true clunker is the supposedly eerie and haunting title track which is basically a rather ordinary, insipid piece of work that has traces of ABBA in it. But this pales compared to the jazzy, lounge lizard track entitled “Dear Miss Everything” that’s damn near missing everything of quality. “She Loves Me (She Loves You Not)” could be mistaken for a cover of Beautiful South with better than expected results.
