Forty-five years after “Love Me Do” first hit the airwaves, the Beatles still loom like giants over the world of pop culture. And if French-Canadian-Circus-Soundtrack-Remix albums and Heather Mills-McCartney tabloid coverage aren’t enough to convince you, then there’s always a slew of new bands trying to capture that Fab Four sound. The latest are Los Angeles-based duo the Red Button. Seth Swirsky and Mike Ruekberg are Beatles worshippers through-and-through, and they’re not afraid to show it. She’s About to Cross My Mind is filled to capacity with McCartney-esque pop tunes, ”60s harmonies, and as many hooks as they can get their hands on. The songwriting is top notch (Swirsky has penned tunes for Al Green, Tina Turner and Rufus Wainwright), but there are times — like when you realize “Free” is essentially a carbon-copy of “Rain”, for instance — that you’ll wish that the mimicry didn’t go quite so far.
