Tut Tut have a rich, textured and at times lush approach to their songs, resembling the best that’s emanated from the Elephant 6 collective. Described as “Ukulele-based destructo-pop” in the press blurb, Tut Tut shines on “Marquee (KC’s Theme) with its simple, infectious melodies and horn-tinged hooks. This goes seamlessly into an almost centuries old version of pop during “Pins On Your Purse”, a song that evokes images of the Arcade Fire prancing with their instruments through Sherwood Forest. They ratchet the intensity up a few notches for the glorious “Fargo’s Theme” that could be the b-side to “Keep The Car Running” but the airy “Over/Under” slows the album down somewhat. Things take a decidedly psychedelic tone on “Already Dead” which recalls Syd Barrett-era Pink Floyd but Tut Tut nail the lovely “Umbrella” (and no, not the eh eh eh Rhianna smash) as they do with the poppy, dance-rock darling “Outro In D”.
