Take Janette Napolitano, Tori Amos, and Courtney Love, add
classical violin, and top it off with enough energy to
power the nation well into the next millenium and you might
be getting close to the fresh, powerfully eloquent sounds
of Lourds. Backed by guitarist T.J. Jordan, bassist Drew
Santarsiero, and drummer Harvey Neil, Lourds mixes her
unique blend of classical violin, acoustic guitar and piano
with a passion that threatens to shake the foundation of
music everywhere. From the intimate and inviting to the
strident and defiant; that is Lourds and that's only the
first track.
The passion and sentiment raging through all 14 tracks of
Lourds debut album, Limited Edition Basement Tapes, show
us the heart and soul of a young woman that has loved and
lost and loved again that strikes an emotional chord on the
heart strings of anyone that has shared her feelings. As
Lourds tells it, "they all come from a real place, a real
situation, so they all have meaning to me," which explains
the purity of the emotion Lourds shares with her listeners
that is both inspiring and infectious.
"Music is my therapy; music is my best friend; music is my
lover" Lourds says and her music is potent enough to be
therapeutic, friend and lover to us all. Knowing someone
else has felt what we've all felt at one time or another
and to be able to share it with a clarity enough to make
the Oracle at Delphi envious; that is Lourds.
This is one of the first albums from a new artist in a long
time I am adding to my list of all time favorites. I
encourage you to go get your own copy of this disc because
I'm not sharing mine.
