The Cougar: Series Premiere

Certainly, there is some pleasure (and a little bit of sympathetic pain) to be had in watching The Cougar's contestants make total asses of themselves.

The Starlet

Faye Dunaway established herself as a great muse of cinema, not in the sense that she inspired great movies, but that her inspired performances buoyed her films.

Ella Enchanted (2004)

It is an updated fairy tale that, for all its charms, can't quite break out of its old-time constraints.

Hustle and Heat (2003)

Lisa's got what Rad calls 'more firepower than Waco,' in her garage.

Kill Bill Vol. 1 (2003)

This is a movie about bodies, about what hurts them on screen and in viewing spaces.

Juwanna Mann (2002)

It's no longer critiquing mainstream expectations, but instead, absorbing and reflecting stereotypes, drained of context.

Juwanna Mann (2002)

Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999)

Consider the view of Kevin Williamson, presently king of all he surveys. As writer-thinker-upper of the first two Screams, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and the WB's hugely popular Dawson's Creek (and even given the failure of this past fall's network-offering, Wasteland), he has spread out before him a vast space of Yes.

Two Can Play That Game (2001)

If you've seen a movie based on a Terry McMillan novel, or gee, even a recent romantic comedy, you know exactly where 'Two Can Play That Game' is going.

Kingdom Come (2001)

What the film does especially well is explore the perpetual strains and stresses of family relationships, especially with the added duress of scraping by, day to day, in an economy that shows no mercy. That 'Kingdom Come' does all this through comedy makes the exploration both more and less painful.
