Call for Papers: Return to the 36 Chambers: Enter The Wu-Tang, 20 Years Later

News

HBO has secured rights to the opening ceremony of the inauguration ceremonies from the Lincoln Memorial on Jan. 18. Both President-elect Barack Obama and Vice President-elect Joe Biden will attend and several big-name entertainers (yet to be announced) are expected to perform.

The pay-cable channel will make its coverage free of charge to basic cable or satellite subscribers. TV trade publications report Obama’s Inaugural Committee went with HBO - much as Bill Clinton’s committee did in 1993 - because coverage would not contain commercials.

What about viewers without cable? The major networks are expected to have access, too, though, but it was unclear Wednesday how much they’ll be able to air.
