“Heroes” has always been well-received at San Diego Comic-Con, an annual four-day celebration of comic books and, increasingly, film and television that takes place each July. Some observers credit the show’s first trip to Comic-Con, a few months before “Heroes” premiered in 2006, with helping the nerd-friendly drama become a breakout hit.
This year, however, “Heroes” will not do a panel at Comic-Con.
According to a representative from Universal Media Studios, which makes the show, “Heroes” will “have a presence” at Comic-Con, and the show’s writers and cast will make appearances. But the show, which brought its entire cast to San Diego the last two years, will not have the typical panel discussion that is a staple of Comic-Con, the Chicago Tribune has learned.
Most film and TV presentations involve the cast and creators sitting on a stage, talking about their show, debuting new footage and taking fan questions. There will be a Season 4 sneak peek unveiled in San Diego, but when and how that will be screened is not yet known.
“I plan on being there, along with some cast and writer-producers, etc.,” creator Tim Kring told the Tribune. “The fans that come to Comic-Con are the best, most loyal that we have. We wouldn’t miss it.”
While “Heroes” is scaling back its ComicCon presence, “Dollhouse” is amping up its presence at the pop-culture confab, which networks and studios are using more and more to build buzz (many Comic-Con panels end up online in the days and weeks following the convention).
The “Dollhouse” panel at Comic-Con will be two hours long, twice the length of most Comic-Con panels. The supersize session will take place July 24, according to Twentieth Century Fox Television.
Star Eliza Dushku and creator Joss Whedon will be serving up “a no-holds-barred Q&A about what they have planned for Season 2” after the screening of “Epitaph One,” an unaired episode of the Fox show, the studio told the Tribune. Whedon and Dushku are the only “Dollhouse” folks participating in that panel.
In other “Dollhouse” news, the creators of “Reaper,” Tara Butters and Michele Fazekas, have joined the writing staff of Whedon’s show.

I’ll have much more about the cable network Sci Fi (which soon changes its name to Syfy) in coming weeks, but in a June 3 interview, the network’s president, Dave Howe, told the Tribune that the “Battlestar Galactica” TV movie, “The Plan,” will debut in November.
He also told the Tribune that “Caprica,” a prequel series set in the “Battlestar” universe, will likely debut in January.
In an interview with the Galactica Sitrep Web site, “Battlestar Galactica” star Mary McDonnell talked about her coming guest role on “The Closer.”
