Conor Oberst is slated to release his first solo album in over a decade on August 5th. If Oberst wasn’t already busy enough being the mast-head for Nebraska’s burgeoning music scene as the front man of Bright Eyes and Desaparecidos, the musician has found time to boost his already prolific roster with his first lone effort since 1993’s cassette only release, Water.
The 28-year-old wunderkind is also attributed as the founder of the Omaha-based label, Saddle Creek (responsible for all past Bright Eye’s releases including last year’s Cassadaga) and New York’s Team Love (home to the fancy feet of Tilly and The Wall), neither of which will be putting out Conor Oberst this fall. That honor goes to Merge Records, who boasts Oberst’s longtime buddy and collaborator M. Ward along with Canadian sensations, the Arcade Fire among their current lineup.
Conor Oberst was recorded in Tepoztlán, Mexico, a locale rumored for its supposed Aztec magic and extraterrestrial sightings- Cassadaga is a community in Florida referred to as the “Psychic Center of the World.” The album was made in a single month in a mountain-villa-turned-recording-studio this past winter. Produced by Oberst with the assistance of engineering pal Andy LeMaster. The upcoming album features the musical backing of unnamed close friends, playing under the pseudonym, the Mystic Valley Band.
Tour dates have already been announced for the new record including the Austin City Limits festival in September.
