When all is said and done, if Departing doesn’t make the Polaris Music Prize shortlist this year, I will quite handily eat my toque and take a New Year's Polar Bear plunge into the sub-zero temperature of the nearest river.

The point seems to be that, as always, if you write thrilling, inclusive pop songs, they will eventually be heard -- no matter what two-bit hole you claw your way out of (begging your pardon, rural Alberta).

These songs are confessional, but also propulsive, driving at you with speeding drums and howling vocals, even as guitars and keys lilt behind these louder sounds, filling the space with expansive haze.
