George Harrison could only be kept quiet for so long. By the end of the Beatles’ run, the unassuming lead guitarist had blossomed into a songwriting force of nature, contributing some of the best compositions to latter-day Beatles LPs, including “While My Guitar Gently Weeps”, “Something”, and “Here Comes the Sun”. He was also incredibly prolific, stockpiling upwards of 30 songs by the time the Beatles called it a day in 1970.

Instead of releasing this high-quality material gradually, George decided to go all out, resulting in the world’s first-ever triple album, his magnificent 1970 solo debut, All Things Must Pass. Easily one of the best Beatles solo albums (if not the best), All Things Must Pass is now reissued for Record Store Day’s “Black Friday” sale (November 26). Co-produced by Harrison and Phil Spector, the album features perhaps the most grandiose application of Spector’s “wall-of-sound”. The deluxe, three LP reissue features faithfully replicated album art and packaging and features some of Harrison’s greatest songs, including “What is Life” and the number-one smash “My Sweet Lord”.

Most would agree that Band on the Run is Paul McCartney’s best solo album. Originally released in 1973, it contains some of the biggest hits of the Cute One’s career, including “Jet”, as well as celebrated album cuts like “Let Me Roll It” and “Bluebird”. Now you can experience the album all over again but better: in remastered sound. This is a four-disc (three CDs, one DVD) deluxe edition which includes a 120-page hard bound book, an audio documentary, and vintage music videos. Sweet!

True Bowie diehards will tell you 1976’s Station to Station is one of his greatest accomplishments. Drawing upon his role in Nicolas Roeg’s The Man Who Fell to Earth, Bowie inhabits his last great character, the Thin White Duke, crafting an album equal parts European and American, bridging the gap between the plastic soul period of Young American and his move to Berlin the following year.

This gargantuan box set features five CDs, three LPs and one DVD, including single edits of “Golden Years” and a rare French single version of “Station to Station”, as well as his much sought-after concert performance at Nassau Coleseum in 1976.

Inspired by a move to Chicago, Nick Butcher combined his two passions, making pictures and recording music; the end result was The Complicated Bicycle, a 24-page hand screened book filled with pictures of crudely drawn airplanes, bicycles and houses copied, cut up, rearranged and copied again. Accompanying this book is an original 8-track album with songs featuring dying keyboards, air organ, and guitar which were recorded to cassette tapes and primitive samplers, giving it an almost accidental feel. The Complicated Bicycle was first released in 2005, so this year marks its five-year anniversary. To celebrate, Butcher is releasing the original album and booklet along with a bonus disc entitled Automatic Music with 45-minutes of unreleased songs, sketches, textural experiments and source material from the original recording session. There is also a bonus 5"x7” screen print.

Apple Records, launched by a little band called The Beatles in 1968, has a new box set featuring 15 key albums originally released from 1968-1973. The 15 albums include artists like Badfinger, Mary Hopkin, James Taylor, Doris Troy, Jackie Lomax and many more. There’s also a bonus CD entitled Come and Get It: The Best of Apple Records. This bonus disc contains 21 singles from the glory days of Apple Records. In conjunction with the singles from acts like Ronnie Spector and The Iveys, there are four previously unreleased tracks from James Taylor. There are bonus/unreleased tracks on virtually all of the remastered albums as well as new packaging including updated notes and visuals.
