On July 30, 2007, two great directors died: Ingmar Bergman and Michelangelo Antonioni. Although these visionaries have died, their deaths have opened people’s eyes, appreciating current visionaries. These directors include Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, David Lynch, Alfonso Curón, Guillermo del Toro, and many others. Although these filmmakers use their medium differently than Bergman and Antonioni, they will be remembered for their unique cinematic achievements for generations to come.

Critically acclaimed Curb Your Enthusiasm continues to make audiences laugh and is far from over. Based on Larry David’s life, the show maintains the “show about nothing” theme of Seinfeld, but turns the focus on David, a character similar to Seinfeld’s George. With a great cast, consisting of Larry David, Cheryl Hines, Jeff Garlin, and Susie Essman, Curb has been nominated for twenty Emmy Awards and has won a Golden Globe. New episodes from season 6 will air early September, 2007.

Punk-indie band Ted Leo and the Pharmacists continue their seemingly never-ending tour, building a strong following in the process. Formed in 1999, the band served as a solo project for Ted Leo after his last band, Chisel, broke up. In 2001, Ted Leo signed to Lookout! Records and released The Tyranny of Distance, an album receiving 4.5/5 on All Music Guide. In 2006, they left their record label, and signed with Touch and Go Records. On March 20, 2007, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists released their latest album, Living with the Living. Currently, the band is on tour, and if they are not coming to your town, they will be soon.

New York-based The National has been recently receiving widespread critical praise. The 5-man indie band was formed in 1999. In 2001, they released their first album, The National, on their record label, Brassland Records. In 2005, they switched to Beggars Banquet Records and released Alligator, a highly praised album by critics. On May 22, 2007, the band released Boxer, featuring many artists such as Sufjan Stevens and Regina Spektor.
