The Carter (trailer)

Adam Bhala Lough’s documentary on Weezy F. Baby made waves at Sundance and is set for a DVD release on November 17th. Lil Wayne is certainly one of music’s more enigmatic megastars, and the trailer looks pretty provocative, not only for its in-depth look at the man and his talent, but also for glimpses of him under the influence of his beloved cough syrup.

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland (trailer)

Tim Burton’s highly anticipated interpretation of the Lewis Carrol/Disney classic promises to deliver with a clever mix of live action and computer animation. Disney’s animated classic entertains, but undershoots the creepy, ominous tone found in the book. We posted a teaser last month; here’s a trailer.

The Fourth Kind, a provocative thriller set in Nome, Alaska, is the story of psychologist Dr Abigail Tyler (Milla Jovovich) and the videotaped sessions she made with traumatized patients. In the tapes, based on actual case studies, evidence of an disturbing alien abduction emerges. Spooky, no?

Musicvision Phoenix dir. Guillaume Delaperriere (video)

Phoenix may be approaching a saturation point, what with Cadillac commercials and appearances on every late night talk show known to man, but if you have seventy-odd minutes to kill, check out Musicvision Phoenix and hear the members of the band listen to and talk about twenty songs that changed their lives.

We Were Once a Fairytale dir. Spike Jonze (short film)

Kanye West jumped the shark in a lot of people’s minds when he shanghaied Taylor Swift’s VMA acceptance speech to lavish praise on Beyonce, but maybe his boorishness is an affliction, maybe he’s just a normal person ill-equipped to handle the mind-bending fishbowl of fame. On a material level, it’s easy being Kanye West, but maybe it’s not easy being Kanye West. Or maybe he’s just a jerk. Either way, a night in the life of Ye as directed by Spike Jonze is distressing, and as the film progresses, very surreal.
