Hello Bill,
While I enjoyed your humor and opinion on this topic - I am one who does mourn Imus in the Morning. I simply loved Imus & Co. in the mornings.
Contrary to your comment that there was really nothing to learn and no real insight from the show - Imus added unique insight into Political figures (who the average person could often never really know or see “offline” so to speak). He is passionate about Country, R&B music and would often invite those acts onto his show to perform. I had never listened to much of it prior to Imus...and suddenly I would be saying to myself in the car “Imus, play that Martina song again”. Imus spoke tirelessly about Veteran’s benefits and ultimately influenced the powerful to stand up (they raised the death benefit for Veteran’s from $12,500 to $250,000). Imus ranted about Katrin Victims and the fact that they had no voice at all - and aid to them was delayed and that, in of itself, was a national disgrace. And it was.
Imus also ranted about Autims and Chrildren’s Charities (Imus Ranch for Kids with Cancer, SIDS Foundation, Tomorrow’s Children’s Fund). His wife, Deidre, was a stanch advocate of these charities and championed the Greening the Cleaning products (non toxic and great by the way)...again and again.
So, I AM mourning the loss of Imus in the morning. Greatly. He added so much value - if you knew the show and listened. He rarely used racial language - he was a social satirist and when he made the bad joke a few weeks ago was merely using language rampant today. It’s just that he is not allowed to say what others say, apparently. The women of Rutger’s were graceful and forgave him...and the man apologized AFTER being fired. That is Sincerity.
He was not just a Shock JOck as I hear so many say....he was so much more.
Long Live the I-Man, your fans await your return!
