The premise is a little unfair. Other than Peralta, the vast majority of the people in the Dogtown scene are every bit the countercultural rebels today that they were back IN the day. Jay Adams is a recovering addict and felon. Alva never fully capitalized on his skating after his teen years, and his small company is a symbol of his dimished stature in the sport. A lot of the lesser known folk--Shogo Kubo, Jim Muir, Marty Grimes, Wes Humpston--are still surfing and even skating in the area or Hawaii. Even Jeff Ho struggled for years to captilize on his surf and artistic legacy. so, you know, just because you could claim Peralta is one of the liberal elites that he complains about (which is bullshit. the guy earned everything he has and doesn’t have to turn in his cool guy card when deposits the check), the rest of the people who made Dogtown what it is shouldn’t be lumped into that.
