The Fannish Inquisition

[27 June 2007]

by Robert Collins

Loyalty to the local team doesn't hold much water, these days. There's a hardcore Diaspora of sports fans who stubbornly refuse to go with the crowd.

Too late, I know. But I’ve been sick.

“The New York Yankees have obviously turned themselves into the most recognisable, and probably best supported, sporting brand on the planet”

Bollocks, they have. They might be recognisable, but supported? I know you don’t like football, but how you think some rounders team can compete, in planetary terms, with the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, or even ManYoo is beyond me. I bet a hefty percentage of the people who wear the NYY logo don’t even know what “sport” they play.
