by Adrien Begrand

Begrand dives into metal fandom with the Mountain Goats' John Darnielle, who discusses the Mighty Riff, the uneasy relationship between indie and metal camps, and the life experiences behind his new book on Black Sabbath's Master of Reality.

Thanks, Adrien, for an incredibly insightful interview - both on your part and John’s. I’ve witnessed first hand the immense differences in perspective between un-selfconscious scenes like the metal and prog camps, and the more self-aware indie milieu. It can be both interesting, entertaining and frustrating shifting between those scenes. And your talk really illuminates that!
