The 2006 Barbershop Notebook Awards

[2 January 2007]

Lest those who have affected the black community in interesting, complex, and largely problematic ways in 2006 go unrecognized . . .

Can I ask u! Wat exactly do u mean by saying Janet should call it quits. So what if she had two bad selling albums she just turned 40 years old. And I will admit that she did not have depth and inovation that she has on past releases! She is far from over. And it is just stupid for you to put her on a list to give it up. So many people have had failed albums in the past and they are still as Iconic she is gonna do well on the tour and this is gonna work out for her so wat she had two albums just go platinum and poor singles. She will still have her career that none of those girls you were talking about. And she is not trying to compete with them. Yes this album sold poorly the tour is gonna rock and do not count her out yet she is coming back with the tour. Ok yes I am just commenting so do not bitch about my grammar. The point is the albums Damita Jo and 20.YO were poor sellers. Damita jo to me was not a flop it sold 3 million worldwide that is good. 20.YO was a flop it sold 1 million and it will probably sell the same as Damita Jo. So she will comeback after the tour she has learned her lesson. She still has a very strong fan base but this album just was not her so with a future recording she will do alot better.

I laugh at your “article” on Janet Jackson, cause you speak ill of her and yet i know she is responsible for the two miserable hits this site recieved. Judge Britney who is looking for a comeback at 25 LMAO!

1. Janet is the only reason I found your website..maybe u should give it up.

2. Why isn’t anyone telling Vivica and Pam Anderson to cover up and move on?

3.  Janet looks damn good, she’s got it, why not show it?  Why must she be confined to how society or one web blogger thinks she should look…

4.  Janet’s back, and ain’t never left, and ain’t going no where...all at the same time.

CONTROOOOOLLLL

How is it possible that everybody can talk about Janet, but nobody addresses the snitch? Even better; nobody has comments about the pedophile or the scam artists/politicians? That’s just great.

Every article was great!

However, if you need a proof reader, just let me know.  Whoever is proofing your work let this one slip by..."This award goes to the public figure who commits a crime that it so stupid that it defies explanation. “

Why Hip-Hop Sucks, Part 3

Marc Lamont Hill

01.Sep.06

There's good hip-hop and there's mediocre hip-hop. The latter is outnumbering the former.

Why We Shouldn't Bury Bonds

24.Apr.06

Like American society itself, baseball is governed by a win-at-all costs mentality that doesn't discourage cheating -- only getting caught.

Thoughts on the NBA Dress Code

Marc Lamont Hill

23.Dec.05

The new NBA dress code, which requires players to dress in 'business casual attire', is clearly and unapologetically directed toward suppressing hip-hop culture.
