We must attend to growing social and economic inequities in order to stop the most dangerous mass movement in American history -- or face a future of fascism under the guise of Christian values.

This is satire, right?

Not satire, just embaressing for Christians with sense.

No, I meant satire in the sense that anyone believes what is talked about in the article is actually happening.

Odd. Seemed spot-on to me. And the two flippant responses above struck me as so much hollow posturing.

Keep whistling past the graveyard, folks.

I do not think this article is satire at all.  This man is deadly serious about what he is saying.  He is delusional...but serious.  As a Christian, I am embarrased by many fundamentalists and evangelicals and sometimes I get downright angry at them.  But, to compare them to Nazis?  That is silly.  Some fundamentalists and evangelicals (these terms do not necessarily mean the same thing by the way) are dangerous BUT NOT NEARLY THAT DANGEROUS.  The world is filled with problems.  Maybe fighting certain fundamentalists and evangelicals is a worthwhile hobby, but I sure hope it is not your day job because fundamentalists and evangelicals are certainly not that high on the list of world’s most pressing concerns.  Two suggestions: (1) Just relax man; (2) maybe get to know a few Christians, I promise they are not all THAT bad.

These responses are highly ironic in nature and amusing, considering the content of this well-written article. Perhaps belonging to a minority group, who have been persecuted, would give you some perspective of how wonderful the Christian-right crusade has been. Consider, for instance, the fact that under your American constitution that no one person should be descriminated against due to their sexual orientation.  Interestingly enough, most of all 50 states have denied gays and lesbians the legal right to be considered partners, and have benefits like other couples.

Also interesting - I am the only woman to respond.

“fundamentalists and evangelicals are certainly not that high on the list of world’s most pressing concerns.”

Oh I don’t know, tell that to some of the Iraq people since they are under siege by a fundamentalist, GWB, who sees this war as a crusade and has his own private army of mercenaries, Blackwater, led by a Christian fanatic, and I think they might have a different view.

And comparing them to the Nazi’s is pretty dead on since Hitler utilized the Catholic Church to disseminate his propaganda of nationalism, like George use’s the fundamentalist church.  And let’s not forget the Nazi war criminals that the Vatican helped escape from Germany when the jig was up.

“maybe get to know a few Christians”

I have, that’s the problem, I was raised in one of these fundamentalist indoctrination centers and listened to their theocratic goals of making America a theocracy, which they are currently implementing.  It was a long time in the making but their efforts are now starting to pay off. The misery they bring as their vision of re-claiming the world for Jesus is now starting to spread around the world.

For Americans who believe in the principles set forth by the founders of the Republic, these Christians are an enemy of the people.
