Every staid situation needs shaking up, none more so that the labored Hollywood studio system. The titles chosen for this section stand out as reasons why things had to change, the results of those seismic stylistic shifts.

I guess Luis Bunuel’s films must not have been shocking enough to merit mention on this list but Russ Meyer’s were? What a strange world.

Sure, Tim Burton’s Planet of the Apes wasn’t that great compared to the original, but where it stands far and above the original is in the makeup for the actors. Aside from the basic masks where every character looks the same, the inhabitants of the “planet” hardly seemed like apes.
