PopMatters Picks: Say It Loud! 65 Great Protest SongsThis time period really should have included Free Nelson Mandela! During the 80’s, when campus activists all over the world (even in the US!) were working to divest their colleges from S. Africa, this song was everywhere. It’s the only significant college movement from this time period. Comment by lc — July 19, 2007 @ 3:47 pm LC > You may have a point about “Free Nelson Mandela”. But the Specials “Ghost Town” was an even more important song, and we clearly have a one song per artist policy going on here. Maybe I could have mentioned “Free Nelson Mandela” in passing. But as you can see, I already had a lot to say about the Specials. Comment by Roger Holland from Holland, TX — July 19, 2007 @ 5:37 pm I hope in the next part of the series we see Anti-Flag’s “You’ve Got To Die For The Government” (1996) it’s freakin brilliant. Comment by Joshua B from Apple Valley — July 20, 2007 @ 1:47 am PopMatters sponsor No “Spreading the Disease” or “Operation Mindcrime” from Queensryche? This list has no credibility. Any list like this that does not include Buffalo Springfield’s “For What It’s Worth” cannot be considered a valid list.
