Celebrating Bogie

Bogie: A Celebration of the Life and Films of Humphrey Bogart

by Richard Schickel and George Perry

Thomas Dunne Books

December 2006, 192 pages, $35.00

by John Carvill

Film historian Richard Schickel fails to pay tribute to Bogie in a recent book. PopMatters' John Carvill takes matters into his own hands.

Bravo. It was nice, for once, to read an essay identifying the qualities that make Bogart a hero today rather than just another hero of the past.

Special mention to ‘Brick’ and the huge amount of inspiration it took from Bogart’s performance as well.
