In spite of the perception of jazz as an increasingly niche market, the year's best show a style of music that remains ever youthful in its exploration of new territories, expanding its diversity and range of expression.

This is a great list.  It’s a nice mixture of well known artists and relatively new ones.  Too many jazz best of lists look like the critic listened to a dozen jazz records all year.  This list looks like it was culled by someone who listened to hundreds.
There isn’t as much “great” jazz out today as there used to be but there is a ton of very very good music under the jazz banner. It’s very gratifying to see a probing mind listening at a broad range of it.
