Despite intense familiy struggles, Salim Nourallah has truly blossomed into his own as one of the most talented musicians in a too-often overlooked scene.

Great article! I love Salim, so I needed no convincing. However, had I been unfamiliar, your piece certainly would’ve piqued my interest.

Salim Nourallah is an amazingly gifted musician and the pride of North Texas.  I’m so happy to see such an in-depth and sensitively written article about his life, music and personal struggles.  We [SAMPLE Press] have written about him several times but, I’ll admit, I’ve never had the guts to ask him about most of this stuff.  Good job, PopMatters!  You’ve both deepened my love for Salim and created a new fan of your website.  Everyone needs a little Salim in their life.  Buy his albums.  After listening to them once, you’ll be so thrilled that you did!

I’ve been listening to Salim for over three years now. Salim has changed my life in a number of ways, not least of which is that I have a newfound appreciation for musicians’ talents.

Salim has a raw and unrefined style, and that’s what makes his music so hard-hitting. Salim’s at-times-gritty voice and widely varied melodies make every album a fresh experience.

I never get bored of this guy… two thumbs up. We love you in San Diego, Salim.

(Plus, he’s a down-to-earth guy, and he’s humble. Not bad looking, either.)

I have been listening to Salim since the early 90’s. I have always been a big fan of his music. He is so talented and I never get tired of listening to his music.

Not only do I listen to his music, but my children love it too. Nicholas is 6 years old and he loves the song “Erased”, Kaelynne on the other hand (she is 3 years old) loves listening to his earlier music. She is now a fan of playing the tambourine. They are a 2nd generation Salim fan, I will always be grateful to him for making music.

the way Salim continues to write perfect songs inspires me.  the way Salim has dug his trench by creating a studio with much musical integrity inspires me. the way Salim figures out ways to give back inspires me.  a special fellow that is living his dream.

What a GREAT article! I can’t imagine Dallas without Salim Nourallah. Every song is a dream and every show is an experience i’ll never forget. His music helped me through my excruciating teenage years, which is something I’ll always remember.

Keep it up, buddy! I especially loved what you said about Carter.

A Dallas icon that continues to support his home turf. I started as a client, turned into a fan, and hopefully am some-what, of a friend. Salim is so easy to support as an individual and even easier to listen to as a musician and sing writer. He makes it seem so easy, and makes everything he participates in sound so much better. A great article to get a feel of where all the intangibles come from...and I hope four records is his minimum.

I had the chance to see Salim at a concert over here in Switzerland. I was happy to read this article and find out much more about this singing texan poet. =) Keep up the great work!

Any of us who are familiar with Salim’s catalogue don’t need an article like this to inform us of his life.  It’s all there in the music.  You could take any random kid off the street, give him Moon Festival forward, and in two weeks he’d know everything we’ve just read here.  Not many song writers are that open and honest in their music.  Couple that honesty with music the Beatles would have been proud to write and you’ve found something timeless.

Nice to see some recognition finally heading his way.

I’ve known Salim for a long time and any recognition he gets for his music is long overdue. Glad the rest of the world is finding out what we’ve known for a long time.

Salim is one of the finest examples of great music that resides in Dallas! He is truly a gifted songwriter with an ability to make great pop songs.

Excellent article. What I believe is truly special about Salim’s approach to songwriting and production is honesty. He sacrifices pretention and posture to give the listener a sincere and clear picture of his emotions through his lyrics and the atmosphere of the music. The same outlook is also what makes him a great person. He truly believes in love and does not shy away from expressing it.

Wow, the article caught my interest, but the music samples on his site did not.

It’s great that a small, local scene supports this stuff, but I don’t see this music as being popular with anyone other than friends of the artist.

Big Fish in a small pond sure, but this article tries to make it so much more.  Aren’t there some interesting, original folks in Dallas who could use some of this exposure?

Jeffrey, in my hometown of Seville we would call you an olive-sucking Visigoth.

But more than likely you are a dallasite sock-puppeteering as a west-coaster. which is the main reason artists like salim struggle to get outta Texas, because they are so eager to eat their own. strange about that place.

But in case you didn’t read all the way through, Salim in on a GERMAN record label. That is in GERMANY.

Salim’s songcraft is in a league of its own. Everytime I pop in one of his albums, I’m awed all over again by his ability to distill melody into 3-minute pieces of perfection. In a just world, he’d be drinking his fill at the fount of unending critical acclaim.

Salim deserves all the praise we can give him, not just for his music, but because he’s a wonderful person, too.  A wonderful person FIRST, a great singer/sonwriter/producer, too.
