Out of Africa: Barack Obama in Pan-African Music

[9 May 2008]

by Drew Hinshaw

While Barack Obama's candidacy has sparked new political interest within the United States, perhaps the best indication of his foreign policy advantage may be found in the music praising Obama coming from other countries around the world.

I guess this must be the most comprehensive playlist you will find on the internet with songs for Barack Obama:

But I’m still looking for many of the songs from Kenya.

The real question is not whether there’s good music for Obama but whether Obama supports progressive popular (OR not-so-popular) music: What will Obama do for black music and American culture in general, in the U.S. and abroad? What are his positions on the National Endowment of the Arts, on the FCC, on the net neutrality, They couldn’t possibly be worse than the Republicans’. But it would be nice to know Obama’s views on our world of arts.

Excellent article! Thanks for posting this great piece. A little something to help us prepare for the celebrations on May 20.
